As this article is being published Hurricane Idalia is raging in the Gulf and bearing down on North Florida, with its sights set firmly on making a direct hit on our service area – the greater Live Oak, Florida area.

With that in mind, we wanted to send out the following tips and reminders to help you make good decisions in the aftermath of the storm.

• Our company will be doing as much as we can to prioritize emergency work: including clearing access to property (clearing blocked roads and driveways), removing trees from homes, structures, vehicles, etc.
• This means you may have already been on our schedule for work during the month of September. If so, please be patient and understanding as we prioritize the order of projects.
• We understand the pressure on homeowners that may have tree damage, trees on homes, vehicles, etc. We are here to help you get back to normal.
• Remember, it is your decision as a homeowner to decide who removes a tree from your home, not your insurance company’s decision. In a catastrophe, you are not required to get multiple quotes. Your responsibility to the insurance company is to mitigate damage in a timely manner
• Hire a professional tree company. Be wary of fly-by-night companies, those coming in from out of state trying to make a quick buck.
• DO NOT hire a company that can’t provide you with 3 basic documents:
  1. Business license
  2. General liability
  3. Worker’s comp
• Prioritize safety! You might own a chainsaw, but please know your limitations. Don’t take on unnecessary risks or risk injuring yourself or others.

Please keep in mind that Major Hurricanes like Idalia get national media coverage, which draws many out of state companies without the proper documentation, licenses, and insurance.
